Dear RLAS-116 Parents,

As a parent of RLAS-116, you have an opportunity to participate in the eleventh annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.

On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

·   Effective Leaders

·   Collaborative Teachers

·   Involved Families

·   Supportive Environments

·   Ambitious Instruction

Prior research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these “5Essential” indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.

All teachers and 4^th through 12th-grade students will be responding to this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in May 2023 and will also be included in the State School Report Card.

Additionally, your district has chosen to provide the optional Parent survey supplement. If at least 20 percent of RLAS-116 parents complete this survey, a parent supplement report will also be generated. The parent data will not be reported on the State Report Card.

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

Como padre de familia de RLAS-116, tiene la oportunidad de participar en la undécima encuesta anual 5Essentials de Illinois que se realiza en todo el estado.  Esta encuesta está diseñada para generar información detallada acerca del funcionamiento interno de la escuela de su hijo(a). Como padre de familia o tutor, esta oportunidad le permite compartir sus opiniones acerca de importantes aspectos de la eficacia de la escuela de su hijo(a).

La Universidad de Chicago, mediante su programa UChicago Impact, administra la encuesta Illinois 5Essentials Survey en nombre de la Junta de Educación de Illinois. La encuesta recoge datos relacionados a los cinco indicadores que pueden predecir resultados importantes para los estudiantes, incluyendo mejor asistencia y mejores puntuaciones en los exámenes. Estos cinco indicadores que afectan y predicen el éxito de las escuelas son:

· Líderes Efectivos

· Maestros Colaborativos

· Familias Involucradas

· Ambiente de Apoyo

· Instrucción Ambiciosa

Investigaciones previas realizadas en más de 400 escuelas han demostrado que las probabilidades de mejorar el aprendizaje de los estudiantes en las áreas de matemáticas y lectura es 10 veces mejor en aquellas escuelas que muestran fortalezas en al menos tres de los cinco indicadores esenciales.

Todos los maestros y estudiantes de 4º a 12º grado tendrán la oportunidad de participar en la encuesta. Las escuelas que obtengan un nivel de respuesta equivalente al 50 por ciento de su personal y estudiantado recibirán informes de los resultados. Estos informes se enviarán a las escuelas y los distritos en mayo del 2023 y se incluirán en el Informe de Evaluación Académica del Estado (conocido en inglés como State School Report Card).

Además, el distrito ha decidido ofrecer la encuesta 5Essentials para los padres. Si al menos el 20 por ciento de los padres de cada escuela completa esta encuesta, se generará un informe adicional sobre la opinión de los padres. Esta información no aparecerá en la Evaluación Académica del Estado.

Su participación en la encuesta para los padres nos ayudará a comprender y mejorar las condiciones que prevalecen en la escuela de su hijo(a). Su identidad y sus respuestas se mantendrán en confidencialidad y nunca se relacionarán a usted o a su estudiante.
