• RLMS Families:

    Greetings from Wildcat Country! We have been preparing all summer for the 2019-2020 school year, and it is only two weeks away! We are excited for students to return on Thursday, August 15, but with that date rapidly approaching, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some specifics regarding the upcoming school year.

    At Round Lake Middle School, and throughout the District, we take learning seriously.  Our District Vision, “Ensuring Educational Excellence for Everyone” is a promise to our students and families.  It is a promise to constantly examine our school and our practices to make sure that we are always improving opportunities and services for all students.

    This year, we will continue our dedication to improving academic student growth.  In addition to offering Leveled Courses in Math and Language Arts, and expanding Electives, we have also expanded math and reading intervention opportunities by hiring an additional math interventionist and an additional reading interventionist. Also, students may receive tutoring or enrichment during 7th-period Flex.  We will continue with Standards-Based Grading this year where students will be assessed on a specific list of skills (learning standards) in each course and will have multiple chances to prove mastery for each skill throughout the school year. If you have not already done so, I would encourage you all to log into the Infinite Campus parent portal. More information regarding account setup and login can be found with any of the administrative assistants in the front office. 

    We also will continue to focus on continuing efforts to positively impact student behavior while empowering students to navigate the ups and downs of middle school successfully.  We are committed to educating the whole-child which means helping students gain greater social and self-awareness. Our behavioral expectations are being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.  These expectations include a continued focus on being on time to class, attending school every day, maintaining positive relations with others, and learning to advocate for themselves. Your student(s) will have access to support including guidance counselors, social worker, school psychologist, dean of students, administration and a team of classroom teachers.  

    I would like to introduce Mrs. Dede Gill, as our new Assistant Principal in charge of Student Services and Ms. Aliaa Ibrahim will transition from our Assistant Principal in charge Student Services to our Assistant Principal of Curriculum & Instruction. Furthermore, we have added a third social worker, Ms. Salgado, to our team. With three social workers, each social worker will be assigned a grade level alongside counselors and then loop with that class until they are promoted to High School. This is being done in an effort to better build relationships while serving students. The counseling and social work assignments for this year are as follows:


    • 6th Grade: Mr. Russo (counselor) & Ms. Salgado (social worker) 
    • 7th Grade: Ms. Garcia (counselor) & Ms. Brown (social worker)
    • 8th Grade: Ms. Hughes (counselor) & Mrs. Lubchenko (social worker)


    Below is a list of reminders for important upcoming dates, these and many other important dates can be accessed on our school website:


    • Friday, August 9th –  - 8:05 am -1:05 pm - 6th Grade Orientation
    • Tuesday, August 13th – 5:30-7:00 pm - Open House (Student Schedules will be available)
    • Thursday, August 15th – 7:25 am -1:11 pm - 1st Day of Classes (Early Dismissal) 
    • Monday, September 2nd  – Labor Day – No School
    • Wednesday, September 11th - Half Day Student Attendance
