Mr. Jason Smith

Hello! My name is Jason Smith, and I am the proud Principal of Village Elementary here in RLAS-116. Our school is made up of close to 60 dedicated, passionate, student-centered professionals who put the safety and learning of each student at the forefront of every decision they make on a daily basis. Each and every day, we work with our students to improve their academic skills, their social-emotional intelligence, and to become global citizens, armed with 21st-century skills that will make them successful, regardless of the path they choose.

I have been lucky enough to have been in education for over 20 years, as a middle school and high school math teacher, and now, in my 12th year as a Principal, and I honestly believe I have the best job in the world!  In my free time, I am an avid hockey player and runner, love to read, and spend time with my family.

Although no website can fully encapsulate the personal experience of visiting a school, I welcome you to explore our pages, and encourage you to contact us should you have any questions!

Hello! My name is Casey Kurtz, and I am thrilled to serve Village Elementary as Assistant Principal.

I'm currently in my eleventh year in education.  The majority of my career has been spent in the Round Lake Area Schools at Ellis Elementary.  I began as a third-grade teacher and then changed roles to work as a reading specialist. I am ecstatic to continue my journey in this District while having the opportunity to join the Village family!  I genuinely believe that a student-centered environment dedicated to meeting the academic, social and emotional needs of our students will allow our students to achieve high standards of learning in our school.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband Kevin and our rescue dog Marley.  I love reading and can often be found doing so alongside my husband as he is fishing. We love to take Marley on hikes, garden, kayak and get outdoors!

I look forward to partnering together to ensure student success with the students, families, and staff of the Village community!
