Mr. Jason Smith
Hello! My name is Jason Smith, and I’d like to welcome you to Village Elementary School, the home of the Vikings! I am thrilled that you have decided to view our school’s website in order to learn more about the wonderful students, staff, and programs we have to offer! We are about to embark upon a new school year with great enthusiasm and anticipation of new opportunities that will enhance our instructional program and school community as a whole. This amazing school is made up of more than 50 dedicated, passionate, student-centered professionals who put the safety and learning of each student at the forefront of every decision they make on a daily basis. Each and every day, we work with our students to improve their academic skills, their social-emotional intelligence, and to become global citizens, armed with 21st-century skills that will make them successful, regardless of the path they choose.
As a school, and community, we are committed to providing a well-rounded, caring, innovative, & engaging educational experience for all of our students, in order to meet the needs of the 21st-century learner.
While a core curriculum is provided for all students, we believe that it is critical to also provide leadership opportunities, character education, and exposure to technology, in order to prepare our students to compete with their global counterparts as they matriculate.
I encourage you to visit our beautiful school, so that you may see that we are a school committed to children, with a personal approach, and high academic standards. You will find that this is a vibrant and engaging community of teachers and learners! To our parents, we believe that your involvement is an essential component to the academic success of your child. I encourage you to visit our website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, and Class Dojo pages often, communicate with your child’s teacher, and to get engaged in all that Village has to offer! Your participation in our school is needed and greatly appreciated! I look forward to partnering with you on behalf of all of the VIKING COMMUNITY!
Personally, I have been lucky enough to have been in education for over 20 years, as a middle school and high school math teacher, and now, in my 13th year as a Principal, and I honestly believe I have the best job in the world! In my free time, I am an avid hockey player and runner, love to read, and spend time with my family.
Although no website can fully encapsulate the personal experience of visiting a school, I welcome you to explore our pages, and encourage you to contact us should you have any questions!

Mrs. Casey Kurtz
Welcome! My name is Casey Kurtz, and I am honored to serve Village Elementary School as Assistant Principal.
Our goal at Village is to work together as a community to provide our students with a rich learning environment, while always putting our students first! I am proud to be a member of a team that focuses on creating a student-centered environment that is dedicated to meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students. Through educating the whole child, students will achieve high standards of learning each and every day. Our staff is committed to partnering with parents, students, and community members to foster positive relationships that support academic and social growth. We strive to maintain a school atmosphere that continues to be that of a warm, welcoming environment for everyone.
On a personal note, I'm currently in my twelfth year in education. The majority of my career has been spent in the Round Lake Area Schools as a teacher, reading specialist and Assistant Principal. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband Kevin, our son Luke, and our rescue dog Marley. I love reading and can often be found doing so alongside my husband as he is fishing. We love to go on hikes, garden, kayak and spend time outdoors!
I look forward to partnering together to ensure student success with students, families, and staff of the Village community!
