Mrs. Lanelle Collins
Welcome to Round Lake Transition Center, where transition is our mission!
Mrs. Collins graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a B.A. in Special Education and has also earned a M.Ed. in Leadership Administration from National Louis University. She began her career as a Special Education Teacher in 2000. In 2008, she secured a position in Round Lake Area School District 116 as a Dean of Students. This is her 16th year working in an administrative capacity in Round Lake. She has served as Assistant Principal for John T. Magee Middle School and Round Lake Middle School, in the areas of curriculum and instruction, and student services. Those positions allowed her to enhance ways to build culture and improve discussions, around classroom instruction and behavior in all classrooms, with a focus on Special Education and all aspects of student services.
Currently, Mrs. Collins, serves as the Special Education Coordinator for the Round Lake Transition Center, where the focus is to facilitate the transition from school to post-school activities, for young adults between the ages of 18-21, in the areas of independent living skills, post-secondary education, social/leisure activities, and competitive integrated employment. In addition, she is the Out of District Placement Coordinator.
We currently have the Secondary Transitional Experience Program (STEP) grant, which will allow us to train students within the Round Lake community by developing partnerships with local businesses as training sites. Currently, we have secured Walmart, Walgreens, Chili's, Oak Hill Assisted Living Facility, Ace Hardware and Tony's Fresh Market. In addition, the Transition Center students have created their own dog treat business (Arf-Arf Treats). The treats come in 3 flavors; wheat free, vegetarian, and meat flavored, and can be purchased on our website for .50 cents a bag, by using the following website, www.arfarftreats@rlas-116.org
