Greetings Beach Bobcat Families!
I am honored to be the Principal at Beach Elementary School this year. In my role as Assistant Principal last year, I met and worked closely with many families and students to ensure a successful school year. I look forward to continuing the amazing work we have started at Beach, however, it will mean we have to work hard. I am asking for your help! Have you heard the phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child?” Well, it does! We need to work as a giant team to support your child to achieve his or her goals in life. This means that we provide opportunities for after school clubs and programs, help with homework, provide help during the day as well as help families if they need assistance. We are a community school and here to support each other.
I am familiar with this community as I grew up on the east end of Clarendon. I have watched the Round Lake Beach community change in many positive ways over the years. The Round Lake School District is advancing and quickly becoming “the place to be”. I know this because I recommended three teachers for hire this summer and they all sought out Round Lake School District because they wanted to be a part of the amazing work we are doing with our students!
A little bit about me…as I said, I grew up in RLB. After high school, I went to Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Illinois where I majored in Elementary Education. I started my first teaching position at Grayslake Middle School (which is where I attended) and taught alongside some of the teachers I had when I was a student! I taught middle school English, Literature and Social Studies. Due to reducing the number of teachers, I accepted a Title I position in South Berwyn at a brand new middle school. I taught English Language Arts and Pre-Algebra. One class was a bilingual Pre-Algebra class, however, my Spanish is not at a bilingual level! I was then offered a position to teach science so I changed schools to Nippersink Middle School in Richmond, Illinois (another brand new middle school). During my time here, I met my husband, we moved and I changed positions for a different opportunity. I started teaching science at Woodland Middle School (WMS). During my 14 years at WMS, I held many positions including t 8th-grade science teacher, Behavior Intervention Specialist, Science Curriculum Coordinator and Assistant Principal. During my time at WMS is when I had my two sons. Looking for a challenge, I asked to be transferred to the Primary School within the district so I went from 6th-8th graders to Early Childhood to Kindergarten students! I then saw the great opportunities at Round Lake, particularly Beach Elementary. I couldn’t resist! I applied, and here I am! I have not looked back and have loved every minute of my time here at Beach. I encourage you to stop in, say hi! If you ever have a concern, please do not hesitate to reach out to my staff or me. We are here to support you and your family.
Thank you for trusting your child with us each day!

Mr. Andrew Carlson
Hello! My name is Andrew Carlson. I recently joined the Beach Staff for the 2019-2020 school year. I am very excited to start my second year in Round Lake, as an assistant principal. Prior to arriving in Round Lake, I served the staff, students, and communities in Waukegan, IL, for 13 years.
While in Waukegan, I taught middle school ELA and social studies for four years before becoming an assistant principal. I then worked as an assistant principal at John Clark Elementary School for seven years. From there I moved to Whittier Elementary School, for another two years.
I came to Round Lake in 2018. I was the assistant principal at Raymond Ellis Elementary School. After an amazing year at Raymond Ellis, I had the opportunity to join the Beach staff. I was able to spend numerous days at Beach in the spring of 2019, and am extremely excited to work with so many new amazing students, staff members, families, and community members.
I grew up in Waukegan, Illinois, and attended schools in both Waukegan and Gurnee. I graduated from Warren Township High School as a member of the Class of 2000. I earned my undergraduate degree at Central Michigan University, where I majored in history and minored in English. After completing my undergraduate degree, I came home, where I earned my teaching endorsement at Rockford College. I also earned a Master’s in the Art of Teaching, at Rockford College. Soon after, I completed my Master’s in Educational Leadership at the American College of Education.
I cannot wait to meet many new faces, and is ready to guide another group of students, and staff members to success!
