About the Principal

Dr. Jeff King
Welcome to Pleviak Kindergarten Center! Your child’s kindergarten experience is arguably the most important milestone in their educational career. Together, we lay the foundation of each child’s academic and social/emotional presence in the world. The experiences that your child will have at Pleviak will set their path for success in school and in life. Our staff pledges to make "Every Student Matters, Every Moment Counts" the centerpiece of every decision that is made toward a successful education.
While I am excited to be in my 1st year as Principal at Pleviak, I come to this position with a number of experiences in early education including opening up a preschool and kindergarten program at a previous district. I know the value of a good education for children and while my experiences have reinforced this, I have the fortune of being married to my best friend and together, we are the proud parents of two wonderful daughters who were given the gift of a good education through a home/school partnership.
Your partnership with us is greatly valued! We know that a great education is the gatekeeper of future success and a great home to school connection is the foundation! As parents, there are many ways you can be involved in the life of this school and the most important is setting a tone for the importance of why they are at school. Please take the time each day to read, play a game and talk about their experiences. These activities will help develop both academic and social skills that are vital to success.
Our goal in working with you is to ensure that we educate the Whole Child! Please reach out to me or your child’s teacher if there is any way we can support you in this important year!
Jeff King, Ed.D.

Mrs. Sarah Swanson
Ms. Swanson has been in the field of education for eighteen years. She began her career in the Chicago Public Schools teaching kindergarten, first and second grades. There, she transitioned into a K-8 literacy coordinator, which is similar to an instructional coach role. After moving to the suburbs, she dedicated the next chapter of her career to Round Lake Area Schools. Here, she served the district and community as a literacy coach at Murphy and Village, a teacher on special assignment at Village functioning very much like an assistant principal, and for the past three years the Elementary Teaching and Learning Coordinator.
On a more personal note, she and her husband have lived in Vernon Hills for the past 9 years. They have a five-year-old son and an energetic German Shepard golden retriever mix. Over the last five years, she has learned a great deal about Legos, construction trucks and dinosaurs.
Family, equity, and truth are her core values. She is very passionate about education, and is looking forward to partnering with families and teachers to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive elementary school experience. She believes that by working together, we can listen, learn, and lead together.
